Honesdale High School Interact launched the Kids Care program in 2010 with a mission to create a big buddy, little buddy type program. This initiative saw high school students pairing up with their elementary school counterparts to create a fun and engaging experience for all students involved. Over a decade later, the program has become a staple of the Honesdale High School community, with hundreds of students having participated in the program. As we continue to see Interact students who were once the little buddies, it is clear that the program has made a meaningful impact.
At the heart of the Kids Care program is the creation of a big brother big sister type environment. Interact students meet with their little buddies monthly and provide them with Christmas and end-of-year gifts to take home. The program fosters a sense of community and caring for students, and Interact students have found it to be a rewarding experience. As one Interact student put it, "Kids Care allows us to give back to the community and make a difference in the lives of younger students. It's an amazing feeling to see the impact we can make and to watch our little buddies grow and thrive."
