(Honesdale, May 25, 2022)… Honesdale High School Interact, Rotary District 7410 USA met online with Spring Valley Interact, Rotary District 3170 India in order to form a partnership and discuss opportunities for collaboration. The two clubs plan to join together to raise awareness about polio eradication, as well as fundraise through the Purple Pinky Project. It’s the first of its kind involving Interact clubs from both Districts 3170 India and 7410 USA.
District Governors and representatives from each Interact club attended and presented via zoom. Each Interact Club shared more about their clubs, their projects, their hometowns and committed to regular meetings in the coming school year. “In order to build goodwill and better friendships, it’s important that we learn as much as we can about our friends on the other side of the world,” said Courtney Krajkovich, Honesdale High School Teacher and club counselor., “We’ll explore festivals, cultural events, and get to know each other, ultimately hoping that our club members can visit each other in the future.”
One of Rotary International’s Areas of Focus is Promoting Peace. “Rotary encourages conversations to foster understanding within and across cultures,” said Brian Fulp, Rotary liaison to HHS Interact, “This twinning, or growing together, will help foster this understanding and allow the students a broader view of our neighbors on the other side of the world we live in.”
Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. “We encourage all Rotary clubs to create and support an Interact club,” says Mary Ellen Bentler, District Governor Rotary 7410, `It's a way that we continue to grow our Rotary clubs by investing in the next generation of leaders, through Interact. It’s what we need to do.”
